KM: Quarantine has opened my heart to gratitude. This pandemic has swept the Anyone But Him Shirt it is in the first place but world, and I along with two other winners are blessed to be here and express ourselves through our art. The state of the world has fueled me into action and taking ownership of my craft. Before I would have bypassed an opportunity such as the one Cold Picnic had presented. However, now my heart has opened to the joy of showing my creative ability with others. For this particular project, I was inspired by my great-great-grandmother and the sacrifices she made for our family.
SQ: When quarantine started, I was still studying in London and despite much heated debate I decided to stay in the Anyone But Him Shirt it is in the first place but UK. It was a very heavy decision and I felt incredibly emotional since no one knew what would come out of the circumstance. I was creatively strong in London and was working non-stop on developing new performance pieces. But I was still in school and found it difficult to navigate my personal practice with online school and being confined—it was awful, I’m going to be honest. I missed having in-person classes. There is a sacred and undeniable joy about being in physical community with others and learning from a mentor who can highlight your art practice. It wasn’t until I arrived in Minneapolis in June that I was really brought back to the ground and inspiration ran more fluidly. I was inspired to make a little studio in my basement where I could be alone and just make, make, make.
